Origin of the Saint Berdoodle

It is believed that Saint Berdoodles originated in the US but its history is unclear. In the early 1880s, the breeder intentionally bred this dog to combine the protective nature of Saint Bernard with the intelligence, and trainability of a Poodle. This combination also merges the affectionate and sweet nature of the parent breed to develop a Saint Berdoodle pet. This gentle giant breed is a beloved and loving dog for families and children. This is a relatively new hybrid breed but not registered by AKC.

The Poodle was considered the oldest breed of dog that emerged in Germany and later on, developed in France. Its standard size means the Standard Poodle was used, in the 1600s, for duck hunting while the Toy Poodle was for waterfowl. 

Saint Bernard has a long history and was bred, in the 1700s, in Europe.  They were used as guarding and herding dogs. In the 1880s its number became lowered and they were saved by the people of Europe.
